Artist statement

I make marionettes out of basswood, an American species of linden.
It suits puppet-making because of its weight, grain and durability.
I learned to make marionettes in the Czech Republic, where puppetry
has a long history and an active present. Images and ideas upon
which my marionettes are based originate in an interest in the
implicit and explicit meanings of human-animal relationships,
visually and culturally. Performing with the puppets requires
collaboration, which allows a much richer life for the little guys.
